Understanding Success Criterion 6.1.1: Give a Shit

Success Criterion 6.1.1 Give a Shit (Level A): For the love of God and all that is Holy, get over yourself, stop dragging your heels and make the shit you create accessible. And seriously: actually frickin' care about it as well. Don't make me come over there!

Intent

The intent of this success criterion is to get developers to stop complaining. Everyone has a right to use the web. Grow up and do your god-damned job!

Techniques

Sufficient Techniques

  • Actually spending a little bit of time to do it. It ain't that hard, people!
  • Try using the shit you make without a mouse.
  • Try using the shit you make with a screen reader.
  • Just frickin' give a shit!

Advisory Techniques

Although not required for conformance, the following additional techniques should be considered to meet this success criteria.

  • Get over yourself.
  • Have some god-damned empathy for others.
  • Remember that one day, you may have a disability too. Especially if I end up coming over there and giving you a big god-damned can of whoop-ass.
